44 newly elected members of the Punjab Assembly could not take oath

In the inaugural session of the Punjab Assembly, 321 members of the assembly took oath today, including 193 members of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, 98 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council, 13 members of the Pakistan People’s Party, 10 members of the Muslim League-Q and 5 members of the Stabilization of Pakistan Party.

According to the details, 17 members were absent in the Punjab Assembly session presided over by Sabtain Khan, while the results of 27 are yet to come. At the beginning of the meeting, the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council raised the issue of specific seats in the House, Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan of the Sunni Ittehad Council said that the specific seats of all the parties have been announced and ours is yet to be announced, so the oath should be stopped. At first there was repetition in the house from both sides, and then sloganeering started, the League members carried placards with pictures of Nawaz Sharif and shouted slogans in the House.

The speaker had to adjourn the meeting for 45 minutes. When the session started again, the Speaker administered oaths to 321 members. The speaker waited for the absent members and took oath from the remaining members when they did not come. Maryam Nawaz, the chief organizer of Muslim League-N, took the oath as a member of the assembly for the first time. On Saturday, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected in the House of Punjab Assembly.
